I am Lucy Gannon, PhD student on the MIBTP programme at Leicester and working with Andy Millard. I have a background in plant sciences, working with molecular biology on plant vs pathogen interactions, lipid metabolism, the n-end rule of protein degradation and signalling pathways.
My PhD is on understanding the cost and mechanism of bacteriophage resistance in enterobacteriacae. This never-ending evolutionary arms race is being investigated using a combination of sequencing, microbiology and viral infection assays.
Lucy recently defended her PhD (2022). After a short spell where she was developing methods for the engineering of phage genomes, she has recently taken up a position working as research scientist at Illumina (Cambridge UK).
